What They Want vs. What They Need

Let’s discuss giving your boss or client gets what they want vs. guiding them to the best results. There is a lot to balance here: leadership, expertise, ego, chain-of-command and professional ethics. Are you better served by doing what the boss wants (they are in that position for a reason) or staying strictly dedicated to best practices and the highest potential for positive ROI? Do you “just follow orders” to get along and not rock the boat with the fear of potential failures (that probably falls back on you) or do you change the approach through conversation, education or even manipulation?

How do you pick your battles and when is “good enough” actually good enough? There are several checks and balances you can put into place.
