Mentoring Others vs. Being Mentored

Episode 13 of 24. Let’s discuss the lifetime value of mentoring – balancing providing mentorship to others and receiving mentoring yourself. This process is ongoing, often changing and lifelong in pursuit of success through personal and professional growth, understanding and commitment.

No matter who you are or what level of personal and professional success you have achieved, you can (and should) be a mentor for those in pursuit of your current status and be mentored by those you are inspired by on the path to ultimate success. Doing both brings value to all involved, pushes you out of your comfort zone (because nothing great happens in your comfort zone) and creates opportunities for everyone involved.

I just discussed the concept of mentoring as a small part of building teams, creating win-win situations and elevating others as a part of your BIG PICTURE path to success on a previous SMH podcast episode. But today I want to go deeper into the concept of mentorship from both perspectives – giving and receiving – and how to balance both.
